        DESCRIPTION:

Our school is a grammar school, but classes have become more heterogeneous and teachers are in the process of developing new teaching methods. Many pupils are from single-parent or working families and often lack support and stability at home. Russian families of German descent often prefer our school, and their children (often from large families) need to be encouraged to  fight social exclusion and complete their schooling and attain A levels. Recently, more and more Turkish parents choose our school for their children. But often we lack the expertise to deal with their special wishes adequately. The project with a Turkish partner school will help students and teachers alike. The Turkish students have already been involved with the preparation of the project and are looking forward to discussing their religion and culture with pupils of other faiths. Vietnamese pupils at our school are often shy and would definitely benefit from a project which gives them the chance to present their cultural and religious background.

There is a rather low percentage of girls at our school. A lot of the girls are quiet and sometimes too timid to stand up against the boys in the classroom. They need to be encouraged as to their understanding of themselves and their abilities. The Comenius project will certainly help to develop and strengthen their self-confidence.

But also our more academic pupils would benefit from the project as it would give them the opportunity to take the initiative and work independently on challenging tasks, combining a language with another subject.
