        DESCRIPTION:
        Ysgol Dinas Brân is a large bilingual secondary school serving South Denbighshire and Wrexham. There are 1,100 students on roll. The school is in Llangollen, a small town, renowned as a picturesque holiday centre, with seasonal employment opportunities. The catchment area the school serves varies both in geography and rurality. Some students come from two of the poorest estates in North Wales, others from isolated farms, small villages, others from small towns. Unemployment has become an issue and deprivation is on the increase. There is little industry and two main local employers have recently closed down. The school population has changed over the years and now 67% of children come from Wrexham. 37% of our students are on our Additional Learning Needs register and 15.9% are on the Free School Meals register.

        The school is a successful and vibrant community. The motto “Success through Effort", is known by the whole school community. We work together for the good of all. One of our main School aims is “To open hearts and minds”. Many students, when they arrive in year 7, have little experience of other cultures or communities outside their own and are insular in their outlook. We are proud of the International dimension that underpins our ethos and the breadth of experiences we bring to the lives of students through the experiences we provide both in curriculum time and through extra curricular activities. This Comenius Project will enable the lives of students to be enriched and further understanding and empathy with our partner schools will be developed.
