        DESCRIPTION:

Gymnazium J.A.Komenskeho a Jazykova skola s pravem statni jazykove zkousky Uhersky Brod is a mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11 to 19 from all walks of life. The school location is peripheral regarding The Czech Republic map which is why the enrollment includes pupils who are slightly disadvantaged socially as well as economically.

The school is closely connected with the personality of John Amos Comenius who was born here and gave his name to the programme. The school curriculum focuses on general preparation for university studies. The aims and issues reflect the policy of a value-based education of European dimension promoted by the Department of Education both at local and regional levels. Students are stimulated to attend a course of Social Studies in English and take part in many Europe-oriented competitions for advanced speakers. All the transnational activities we have been involved in helped students become more open-minded, cosmopolitan and committed.Comenius programme will offer further professional as well as personal development to both, students and teachers communicating with partner schools across Europe. We also feel this project work will enable us disseminate and transfer values and beliefs of participating nations to schools in The Czech

Republic to fight xenophobia and common prejudices. We strongly believe that it is primarily schools which should raise awareness of European  and non-European cultures and religions. We are fully aware of the project impact on overall school life, local community and all religious authorities within the region which would not commonly collaborate with secondary schools to such an extent.
