        DESCRIPTION:

        Our school (a “liceo”) includes three different courses: Uman Sciences, Economics & Social Sciences and  Musical. It has about 630 students from 14 to 18 years of age. Most of them are girls and they mostly come from the surrounding villages. The languages taught are English, French and Spanish.   The school is non profit, state, secondary school in Nuoro, one of the most important towns, as well as provincial capital, located in Sardinia, an island of Italy. Nuoro is in the middle of the island, in a mountainous region. Popular traditions are still alive here and many people still speak the local language. This, however, is gradually disappearing and many people nowadays only speak Italian. There are lots of feasts with which local people and communities witness the richness of their cultural heritage.   Our school does not face such problems as crime, violence drug or alcohol abuse. No migrants or refugees attend our school, but because of quite a high rate of unemployment some children here are at risk of social exclusion. Our school is a reference site for  students with special needs. They are often underprivileged,  and have a lack motivation, objectives and support. Our work and realized projects are aimed at encouraging them to study, letting them exploit the potential they have in order not to be excluded from society. We also want them to learn languages, see the meaning of lifelong learning, the importance of cultural integration  to make a society, a country of the EU they live in. Our school promotes the use of ITC as a common tool and finally to motivate pupils and teachers through planning different kinds of activities.    The role of our school is giving the same chances to everyone, encouraging them to learn, develop their interests and passions, supporting their talents, creating the atmosphere of cooperation, tolerance, making our students curious about the world.  We want to provide a safe environment for learning where individuality is recognised and diversity respected.
